The newly renovated BSR bunkhouse is available for members of small group training and competition match staff. The bunkhouse can accommodate up to eleven people and includes a complete kitchen and outdoor propane grill. Dishes and general spices are provided. Lodgers should bring their own toiletry items and towels. If you plan to stay in the BSR bunkhouse, plan to bring any food you would like to prepare. There is a market in Logan with a good selection of produce, fresh meat and other groceries.
We also make use of the bunkhouse available to students of all courses for an additional fee. For students, going into town for food is practical only in the early morning or evening of course days. While there is a lunch break each day, this doesn't allow for travel to and from town in addition to actually eating lunch. The SUBWAY in town is open at 5:30am for sandwiches if you don't want to prepare lunch. The Annex restaurant is a great spot for dinner, and there is a café on the north edge of town that's open for breakfast.
Check in at the bunkhouse for students begins at 5pm on the evening before the class begins. Earlier arrival times require special arrangements.
We encourage you to patronize the lodging, food services and other businesses in Logan as this goes a long way to ingratiate us with the locals and insure the longevity of shooting activity at the Blue Steel Ranch. The locals really appreciate it when we fill up the hotels with the events at the BSR.
Although there is space to park a few RVs on the property, there is no utility hook ups at this time. There are three motels and an RV campground on Ute Lake in Logan, which is only 12 miles from the Blue Steel Ranch. The hotels in Logan are more of the “retro” flavor but clean and comfortable. The Budget In is the more modern of the three with rooms opening to the inside hallway. The Yucca and Village Inn are traditional motels with rooms opening to the parking area. The Yucca is next door to a nice café serving breakfast and lunch.
More modern accommodations can be had in Tucumcari, which is about 30 miles to the west for those that would prefer that type of experience and willing to do a bit more driving. Logan has several food services and a very nice general mercantile called the Logan Market. The Annex is a great restaurant and bar which serves lunch and dinner. On the north end of town, there is a nice little café that serves breakfast and lunch, but not dinner. Finally, there is a Subway that opens very early, stays open late, and gives you the opportunity to have a quick breakfast sandwich and grab a lunch sandwich to go if you prefer not to come back to town for lunch. There are two gas stations in Logan that both offer convenience foods if all else fails. At this time we do not have a food service at the BSR for lunch. Tucumcari has a number of restaurants both on the historic Route 66 (old main street) and on the I-40 corridor.
The nearest medical facility to the BSR is the Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.
